Christia Murdaugh is a native of Moncks Corner, South Carolina.  Mrs. Murdaugh received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional English from Morris College, a Master’s Degree in Education from Southern Wesleyan University, studied at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS, and an Education Specialist Degree in Administration from Cambridge College.  Encompassed in her eighteen years of experience in education, Christia began at McDougal Corrections in Ridgeville, SC as an interim guidance counselor, later she moved to Dekalb County Public Schools in Atlanta, GA   to work with Special Education.  In 2000, she relocated to Orangeburg, SC and began teaching at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School where she taught English.  She was hired by the State Department of Education and Calhoun County Public Schools in 2005 as a District Instructional Facilitator for John Ford Middle School and ultimately St. Matthews K-8 and Sandy Run Schools.  Currently, she is the Chief Academic Officer for Calhoun County Public Schools.

Mrs. Murdaugh has conducted numerous professional development opportunities for educators to build growth and enhance student achievement.  She is a former Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year recipient.   She is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators and SCASA Instructional Roundtable.  Mrs. Murdaugh founded Jewels of Elegance to promote self-awareness of young girls.  In her time away from the office, Christia is a director of choirs, the advisor for the NAACP Youth Council, and a member of Beta Zeta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.

Christia Murdaugh is the proud wife of Dr. Johnny Murdaugh, Jr. and mom of two beautiful daughters, Sydney (Berklee College of Music in Boston) and Jahntia (Calhoun County High School).

Her motto is “Children are not things to be MOLDED, but people to be UNFOLDED!”
